Lakewood fire companies were dispatched to Northland Ave. early Wednesday morning for a house fire. Neighbors spotted smoke and flames next door and called 9-1-1.
Engine Co. 2 arrived on scene to find flames shooting out of a second floor window. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze. Upon searching the structure firefighters rescued a person from the third floor. The patient was transported to Lakewood hospital and transferred to Akron General for specialized treatment. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke conditions and operated in sub-zero temperatures.
After a few days recovering in the hospital, the patient was released and sent home. The rescued person, and several of her friends and family members, showed up at Lakewood’s Fire Station No. 1 to thank the firefighters and paramedics.
