Lakewood Firefighters Battle Boat Fire, Rescue Victim

(Thursday October 9, 2014 B-Shift)

The Lakewood Fire Rescue Boat was dispatched to a boat fire just east of the moth of the Rocky Rive at approximately 7:45am Thursday morning.

Upon arrival there was heavy smoke and fire showing from land. The rescue boat was rapidly deployed, upon arrival at the boat site a victim was found in the water. The victim was rescued and brought back to shore. The victim had a life vest on and sustained minor injuries. The victim was treated and released from the hospital.

After getting the victim safely to shore the fire boat returned to the boat which was fully involved and extinguished the fire with our on board fire pump.

The Coast Guard arrived on scene to assist the Lakewood Fire Boat. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
