Lakewood firefighters rescued three cats and a dog from a burning home in the 1500 block of Cohassett Avenue late Monday morning.
A passerby witnessed smoke coming from the roof and called 9-1-1 just before 11 a.m. Firefighters responded immediately and contained the fire to an attic crawl space and a bedroom at the back of the home.
No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
Lakewood Assistant Fire Chief Darrin Collins said that three cats and a dog were all accounted for and in good health.
“Firefighters did an excellent job containing the fire in the extreme cold temperatures and deep snow conditions,” he said.
Also, the department extended gratitude to the residents of Cohassett Avenue for “keeping the fire hydrants clear of snow and visible to arriving fire companies.”
